Becoming a TLGTA member is a simple process that can be completed online in less than 5 minutes. All you need to do is fill out our membership application and then pay the yearly membership fee, either through Interac (e-Transfer) or by check. The TLGTA is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization (i.e., no one gets paid). Your yearly membership fee helps offset club costs: balls, courts, website, insurance etc., which we need to run our programs. Join the TLGTA.
So what do you get by becoming a TLGTA member? The answer is a whole lot! Basically, we make it very easy for you to get involved, meet a bunch of new people, network within the tennis community, and organize more tennis events than one person could ever possibly play. We're a very welcoming group, we like to have fun, play hard and enjoy some laughs when it's all done. We hope you'll join us.
If you would like to know more see our Frequently Asked Questions or email our Membership Director.
You're part of our community | You will have the opportunity to join the TLGTA Ladder. The Tennis Ladder is organized for those who are more flexible with when they would like play. Participants are placed on a list and you have the opportunity to contact other players for matches. The matches (when and where you play) are organized by the players themselves. This event only runs during the summer and there is no fee. At the end of the season, the results are tallied and prizes given to the winners. |
TLGTA teams and tournaments | We run a Winter Team Tennis program. The teams are for all. The teams vary in skill levels from beginner (2.5) to advanced (4.5+). Team tennis is perfect for those who want to play competitive tennis or want their games organized for them. It is also a great way to get to know your fellow members. Check out our Events Calendar to see all the events we host over the course of a year, the proposed dates, and which are social or competitive. Take a look and start planning today. |
Competitive events | The GLTA sanctions tennis tournaments around the world in different countries such as Canada, USA, England, Italy, and Germany. These tournaments allows you earn points towards your ranking. The Canadian Gay Open (CGO) is our international tournament that takes place in May (Victoria Day long weekend). This is our largest event that attracts over 150 participants. The CGO is recognized by the GLTA. Other TLGTA tournaments include Rust Remover, Bigger than Wimbledon, Not The Rogers Cup, Club Doubles Championship and Club Singles Championship. |
Non-competitive events | The TLGTA has non-competitive tennis event for our summer recreational season. We play outdoors at the Thorncliffe Park Tennis Club. We have social tennis at this location, with play usually commencing in May and ending in September (weather permitting). All you need is a tennis racquet, balls, and athletic gear. Thorncliffe has hard courts, washroom facilities and lights for night time play. |
On-going events | During the winter (November to April), we move our activities indoors. We play at Mayfair West on Friday and Saturday evenings and Mayfair East on Sunday evenings. Please refer to the upcoming events section for more information. Change room facilities are provided at both locations. Space is limited for Winter Social Tennis and Winter Team Tennis. The advantage of our winter activities is that you do not need to belong to a private club (and pay their membership dues) to play tennis. |
Non-tennis events | While we do love our tennis, we also have events that don't actually involve playing. We have done dinner nights, trips to the Rogers Cup, table tennis, bowling, beach volleyball, karaoke and also have a year-end AGM and Awards Banquet. |
Developing skills | While the TLGTA is not generally in the business of teaching tennis, we do provide outlets for our members to improve. |
